Any Hindu marriage by section 7 of the Hindu Marriage Act is valid. A marriage format without observing the above law is not valid before the law. When a person undergoes the proper format of Hindu marriage then the register office will register the marriage.
In many temples in Tamilnadu, they do not provide marriage certificates or receipts for the place provided for marriages. They only give an arcana receipt which doesn’t validate the marriage performed. Even the temple providing the certification marriage has asked for many mandatory clearances to perform the marriage. They ask for necessary certificates for bachelors and no objection certificate from the concerned department.
It is compulsory to perform saptapadi i.e., to take eight rounds around the fire is compulsory for the marriage. Merely tying thali is not a valid marriage. Exchanging garland or keeping kumkum on the forehead of the bride is not a valid marriage.
In Tamilnadu, the Hindu Marriage Act was amended and a new provision section 7 A was inserted. In such a marriage it is not necessary to tie thali or perform saptapadi or marriage to be done in the temple or the marriage hall. Even the exchange of garland or affixing kumkum is also not necessary as per the self-respect marriage. Parents are not necessary for the marriage function. Hence many lovers choose self-respect marriage and come to Tamil Nadu and do their marriage. The marriage procedure is also simple and less cost-effective and a boon to middle-class families.
